Bilingual Surf coach, fluent in English (french an asset) in Costa Rica Full Time

Now hiring for July-August. We’re currently seeking 2 experienced surf coaches with a minimum of 5 full years of experience teaching beginner and intermediate surf lessons on beach breaks and point breaks (behind the impact zone).

The ideal candidate would:

• Have a minimum of 10 years of personal surf experience
• Have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a surf instructor on beach breaks and point breaks (past the breaking point, teaching with your board)
• Have a lot of empathy for others and good intuition
• Have experience teaching surfing through Video analysis
• Be confident in hosting surf theory classes on surf-related subjects, and naturally comfortable speaking in front of people
• Knowledgeable about surf technique training exercises in and out of the water.
• Physically fit
• Able to drive a manual transmission van
• Show experience with teamwork (team sports, college groups, work groups)
• Be certified  with CPR / Basic First Aid
• Have a Surf instructor Certification up to date with valid Surf Coaching insurance (an asset)
• For French candidates, have his BPJEPS spécialité “Educateur Sportif” mention “Surf” (a strong asset)

• Able to wake up early for dawn patrol lessons.
• Native English or bilingual (English / French) applicants are a strong asset
• Musician or other entertaining skills an asset

The work is based on 1 week working at the surf camp and 1 week off for you to surf / travel on your week(s) off and come back fully rested.

Work Schedule can vary between 4:30am to 10pm for 7 days (with some resting time during the day), including 5h of practical surf session in the water, 1h of surf theory and/or surf training, surfboard and vehicles clean up, getting up early in the morning, driving, and maintaining common areas clean while interacting with guests. An average week represents 25h-28h of surf coaching in the water, 5h-7h of surf theory and 5-7h of video analysis.

This is a paid position. Salary to be discussed depending on the experience

Food allowance & shared accommodation are provided during the workweek.

*A minimum of 3 past work references as a surf instructor is needed to apply for this position*

**The work is located in a remote area without fast internet or nightlife, this is ideal for the passionate surfer looking to mix work with personal surfing time, but not ideal for someone seeking nightlife and partying unless traveling out of the area during the week off.

Availability:

The applicant should be available from July 14 2023 for a minimum of 1 month. This is a seasonal contract. Our season stops in August and starts again in December.
