Chef Wanted In Paradise Full Time

We are seeking an energetic Chef who wants to live in a surfers paradise but also be a good team player and leader….. You will be working at our poolside kitchen serving up mexican inspired fast food like tacos and tostadas to our in-house guests. We are just a few minutes walk from some incredible beaches with some of Portugal’s best surf for beginners to intermediates. In between work schedules, you will have the possibility to surf lots, join our daily complimentary yoga classes and be part of an inspiring team. You will need to have a passion for working with people, be a master of solving problems and be able to organise the work for yourself and others in the team.

You will be organising your own kitchen responsibilities over the course of each week, with guidance from our management team making sure quality is controlled. A systematic organised and calm approach to work, is equally vital as an outgoing personality.

Our chef’s main responsibility is to prepare daily meals from our all day menu for in-house guests and staff in cooperation with other workers at times.  You will also be responsible for purchasing from the local supermarkets just a few minutes walk away at times.

As an important key member of our team representing The Salty Pelican, you will be required to be punctual, reliable, as well as being a dynamic and enthusiastic person. You will need present yourself as a professional host throughout our guests’ entire stay and be available at times to also assist our retreat managers where needed.

We expect you to have some type of experience working in a commercial kitchen already ! Can help develop a delicious menu, can work well alone and also within a team.

Salary offered is dependant on experience and we pay above award wages in Portugal.

Requirements:

• Great people skills, with an ability to motivate and inspire team members.
• Professional experience working in commercial kitchen
• Managing your small team and quality control.
• Managing day to day operations, including group meals and staff food.
• In charge of stock control and purchasing food & beverage products.
• Reporting to managers and adjusting to any feedback.

About Salty Pelican: We are a surf and yoga retreat located in multiple destinations around Portugal and Sri Lanka. Both our properties in Peniche and Ericeira have swimming pools, all day menu, yoga shala and open outdoor lounge spaces with incredible sea views at both properties.
