We’re looking for a highly professional and motivated chef to work in our boutique surf lodge located in the Algarve. If you’re experienced, forward-thinking and passionate about cooking healthy and diverse meals, we want to hear from you. The ideal candidate for this position will understand our clientele and always have a finger on the pulse of culinary trends.
The Head Chef will be responsible for creating healthy, delicious and nutritious restaurant-style two-course dinners in the evenings for up to 20 guests with varying diets. The role also includes creating healthy gourmet beach picnics for guests and the Tiny Whale team.
The quality of our guests’ experience at Tiny Whale is largely dependent on the food we serve on a daily basis. As our Head Chef, you should be able to create new recipes, prepare all types of different food using different cooking styles and handle food presentations. Our Head Chef is also responsible (together with our Lodge Manager) for the menu selection, the efficiency of kitchen service and the overall dining experience. You’ll mostly work with one other assistant with one or two hosts as helpers.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Degree in culinary arts or related certificate
Experience as a Head Chef in a chalet or hotel restaurant
Experience accommodating all types of dietary restrictions
Highly proficient in spoken and written English
Full driver’s license for driving in Europe
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 1 year experience working in a fast-paced kitchen
Experience with culinary trends and optimizing kitchen processes
Experience overseeing and managing kitchen operations
Additional language/s a plus (Dutch, German or Spanish preferable)
Basic knowledge of Portuguese is helpful but not essential
DATE OF EMPLOYMENT
The position is open from the end of February until the end of November.
