We’re looking for a highly professional and motivated boutique hotel manager to oversee the daily operations of our boutique surf lodge located in the Algarve as well as provide strategic direction. As a lodge manager, you’ll be responsible for planning, coordinating and administering our boutique hotel services and accommodation facilities. You’ll make sure that all areas of the lodge environment run smoothly and work together, planning and supervising the activities of an extensive and diverse workforce to ensure our clients have the best experience possible during their stay.
Being the lodge manager is all about creating a positive first impression of the lodge using his or her high standards, attention to detail, excellent service and friendliness. In short, you should do everything in your power to make the experience of our guests unforgettable. A Tiny Whale lodge manager is proactive and loves working in the surf-related hospitality sector.
It is important for the hotel manager to be involved in all aspects of the hotel operations. You will be also responsible for dealing with complaints, strategizing and preparing reports. You will be a key person of reference for employees and clients as well as external vendors.
The lodge manager must be able to guide the employees to work as a well-functioning team. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be a team player and an effective leader, able to set examples and foster a climate of cooperation. The goal is to enhance customer dedication and expand our strengthening our surf lodge reputation.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Degree in Business Administration, Hotel/Hospitality Management or a relevant field
A master’s degree in a relevant field will be advantageous
At least two years experience as a hotel, boutique hotel or lodge manager or relevant role
Outstanding leadership skills and great attention to detail
Understanding of all hotel management best practices
Excellent customer service skills as well as a business mindset
Demonstrable aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
Experience working in a fast-paced professional environment
Basic surf/ocean knowledge
Knowledge of hotel management software (PMS) is an advantage
Understanding relevant Portuguese and European laws and guidelines is a plus
Knowledge of Portuguese will be highly considered
Highly proficient in spoken and written English
Full driver’s license for driving in Europe
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise work at all levels and set clear objectives
Develop and implement an intuitive and efficient strategy to complete daily operations and hotel services
Plan activities and allocate responsibilities to achieve the most efficient operating model
Deal with maintenance issues, shortages in staff or equipment, renovations, etc
Collaborate with external parties such as suppliers, other sports activities agencies, event planners, etc
Communicate with customers when appropriate (welcome them in the facilities, address their complaints, find solutions to problems, offer information, etc.)
Inspect facilities regularly and enforce strict compliance with health and safety standards
Recruiting, training and developing the lodge team
