WildMex is a young, dynamic company focused on sharing our love for the surfing lifestyle with our guests and co-workers. We are in the beautiful Punta Mita/Sayulita area on the Mexican Pacific Coast, surrounded by jungle, beaches, and quaint towns. Our company has a great reputation and is classified as a 5-star company.
We are looking for professional, funny, honest, passionate, and hardworking Surf Instructors to join our team. As a Surf Instructor at WildMex, you will be responsible for giving surf lessons that involve land lessons (or review sessions), surf theory, helping guests get waves in the water, being hospitable to guests, giving them advice, helping them carry their board whenever possible, etc.
Duties: As a Surf Instructor at WildMex, your responsibilities will include delivering high-quality surf instruction to our guests, ensuring their safety, and safeguarding the company’s equipment. You are expected to consistently maintain a positive and professional demeanor, adhere to our privacy policies, and represent our company in a way that upholds our values and standards. In order to fulfill your duties, your presence is required during scheduled sessions to provide the service.
Our instructors must arrive at our surf shops 30 minutes before the session takes place and leave 30 minutes later when everything is clean and stored. During this time, it is part of the instructor’s job to prepare all the necessary equipment, wash it and store it properly afterwards.
In addition to scheduled lessons, instructors are also expected to join sporadic team meetings to talk about specific subjects and help with Content Creation and brainstorming ideas.
We offer our staff unlimited use of Standard and Performance Surfboards for personal use during office hours (all damages must be paid by each individual), the possibility to make any of our other trips (snorkeling, SUPing, cycling) for free when time and group logistics allow, discounts at local partner stores and restaurants, and the possibility to stay with us in Staff Housing with a minimum cost.
We offer payment per service (biweekly) for Jr, Senior and Master Instructors; and a 10 % bonus at the end of each season:
November 1st to January 31st (to be paid on February 15th, 2024), February to April 2024 (to be paid on May 15th), and May to August 2024 (to be paid on September 15th). Please note that the bonus is contingent upon continuous employment with the company until the respective payment dates.
Lessons are scheduled for 8:30 am, 11:30 am, and 2:30 pm. Instructors are required to be prepared and present 30 minutes prior to the start of each lesson.
Each lesson lasts for 2 hours and 45 minutes, which includes 30 minutes for theory and preparation, a 15-minute walk to the beach (both ways), and 1 hour and 45 minutes of water time.
The student-to-instructor ratio is capped at 4:1. For children under 10 years old, the ratio is 2:1. If necessary, one or more additional instructors can be assigned to assist the primary instructor.
Lessons are offered for Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced levels, as well as Multi-Day Surf Camp packages.
The Operations Manager posts the work schedule for the following day between 8:30 and 9:00 pm. It is the responsibility of the instructors to check their scheduled sessions for the next day.
Proposed Start Date: In order to ensure that our school’s service is adequately staffed and prepared for the Winter Season of 2023-2024, it is essential that all our surf instructors are ready and available to work from November 1st to April 30th. Given that instructors require two weeks to familiarize themselves with the area, breaks, vehicles, and equipment, we need all our seasonal instructors to arrive between November 15th and December 15th.
Reporting Location: The workplace varies between our Sayulita and La Lancha branches.
Days Off: Days off are assigned to balance workload and availability of instructors.
Modality: Professional Services
Trial Period: 30-day evaluation by both parties
Staff Accommodation: Our team members are offered accommodation benefits, which include a shared room with one or two individuals of the same gender in our staff complex at La Lancha. The accommodation comes with basic amenities such as a shared kitchen, hot water, drinking water, electricity, a washer and dryer, gas, and internet. A recovery fee of $2,000 pesos per month will be deducted from your biweekly payroll.
