Hi there! My name is Adam and I’m 27 years old and from Ireland. 🙂
I have over five years experience working as a surf instructor in Ireland. I am looking to spend a season abroad in order to continue developing my coaching skills, experience a different culture, meet some fun people and progress my own surfing.
These are some of the things I can bring to the table:
A lot of enthusiasm for what I do, I love to see people progress their surfing over short and long periods. I started surfing when I was 18 so I can understand some of the hurdles people may experience when learning to surf later in life.
A positive attitude, I enjoy working as part of a team and I enjoy what I do.
A flexible approach, every person is different and groups will often have different dynamics. I will always try to adjust lessons plans in order to cater for groups and individuals in a way that they can get the most out of each session.
Experience, I’ve worked many full seasons as a surf instructor as well as on a part time basis while working other jobs/studying. As well as paid employment I’ve volunteered at disability camp called “Surf 2 Heal” where we give surf lessons to children and adults that are on the autism spectrum. I’ve taught all kinds of groups and individuals over the years, some people who are very motivated and wanted to progress as much as possible, others who simply wished to enjoy their time in the water.
In all of my roles surf lessons were only a part of the process. Greeting customers as they walked through the door and being attentive to their needs until they left the centre was all part of the process, as well as cleaning of wet suits and changing areas, reception duties, minor injury care and making decisions about how best to facilitate groups.
