Alexander Dobson Surf Instructor

Manchester, UK
(Included in Resume)
Surf Instructors

I have always been a passionate surfer, and I have been surfing since a very young age. I passed my National Vocational Beach Lifeguarding Qualification, and my ISA level 1 Surf Instructor’s Qualification, in Cornwall, in July 2019. I subsequently found a job teaching surfing at Adventure Parc Snowdonia in North Wales, where I worked from August to December 2019. Whilst working at Adventure Parc Snowdonia, I taught classes of up to 8 people of all ages and abilities from beginner to intermediate level surfing.

Growing up, I spent a huge amount of time around the coast, and in the sea, pursuing my passion for surfing, as well other water sports such as sailing, wakeboarding and stand up paddle boarding. In the winter, I also enjoy skiing, and snowboarding, both of which I have gained many years of experience.

I have just finished re-sitting my A levels at St Ambrose College. I was studying 3 A levels, French, Biology, and Chemistry. I passed all 3 A levels in 2019, with two C’s and a D, but I was unhappy with these results as I feel I am capable of achieving much higher grades. Sadly, due to the cancellation of all exams in the UK, I will be given predicted grades which will accurately display what I would have achieved if the exams had taken place. I hope to see a large improvement overall compared to my previous grades. Throughout school, I played rugby every week for the school’s First Team, and I latterly achieved the status of House Captain. I also voluntarily mentored younger students in a variety of subjects including Maths, French and Biology.

Outside of school, I worked in a restaurant for 14 months. My time spent working in the restaurant gave me invaluable experience working front of house and behind the bar. It also honed my skills for working in stressful situations. To relax I play the piano, in which I have progressed to and achieved grade 5. I enjoy speaking French, and I strive constantly to improve my competency through French media and talking to other French speakers.

I love travelling, and I have completed several trips and expeditions in the past years including climbing “The Three Peaks” of Great Britain, and more recently a scientific expedition to the jungle of Indonesia, where I was actively involved in researching the local flora and fauna of the region. This was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, as it gave me an insight into the fragility of such ecosystems, whilst also allowing me to assist in their maintenance. Whilst in Indonesia, I also achieved my PADI diver’s qualification. As a lover of the ocean, this furthered my understanding of the sea and also provided me with a lifelong skill.

I am always looking for opportunities for new adventures, and so, after completing my A levels, I decided that I would love to some spend time following my passion for surfing. With the outbreak of COVID-19 however, I realise that the most important thing is to help the community in any way that I can. Therefore, I have spent the time during lockdown volunteering at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. I continue to volunteer at the hospital, where I give 30 hours each week, over 4 days. My roles include welcoming people at the entrance to the hospital, and following strict guidelines as to who I am permitted to allow entry into the hospital, and also to deliver goods to the many hospital wards upon request. After the lockdown, I would love to continue my plan of pursuing my passion, and so I am looking for a job teaching surfing. Should I be lucky enough to be offered this position, I would look forward to the opportunity it provides.
