Surf instructor – few locations in Wilmington area, NC, USA Full Time

We are looking for a surf Instructors for our Carolina Surf School. Our program attracts participants from all over the world that have the desire to learn how to surf or improve their skills. Applicants must have a passion for marine stewardship, teaching, inspiring youth, and surfing. This position requires candidates to work to inspire, instruct, and provide care to every group of participants.

Surf Instructors will be responsible for daily lesson set up and break down, surfing instruction, logistical support, lesson equipment management, and any duties assigned. Most importantly, Surf Instructors must ensure that all staff and participants stay safe while having an awesome and life-enriching experience. No surf instruction experience is required for this position as all selected candidates will go through our comprehensive, in-house training and certification program, but you must be a proficient surfer. This position reports to the Program Coordinator.

Skills and Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years of College
• At least 20 years of age
• Must be in excellent physical condition + able to life 50 lbs unassisted
• Current certifications (upon beginning of staff training): CPR and First Aid
• Must have at least 3 years surfing experience
• Must be able to attend mandatory staff training
• Willing to work long hours while maintaining energy and stamina
• Strong communication, decision making, logistical, and organisational skills
• Able to pass a government background check
• Reliable vehicle capable of transporting multiple surf boards
• Clean driving record
• Cell phone
• Reliable and punctual team player

Desired Skills & traits:

• Pursuing a BA or BS in marine biology, environmental science, education, recreation, or related field
• Familiarity with southeastern marine ecosystems and organisms
• Previous experience working in a summer camp setting
• Environmental education certification or teaching credential
• Ability to accept and give constructive criticism
• Energetic, morning person with a positive attitude

Responsibilities and Duties:

Working in collaboration with other staff, you will provide supervision and instruction for participants in the field. Carolina Surf School lessons take place at multiple locations around Wilmington, NC, everyday of the week. Set up and break down will require time before and after each lesson.

Individual must maintain a strong skill set in the following areas: professionalism, organisation, punctuality, problem solving, as well as a solid attention to detail. These skills are crucial in order for you to provide the best possible experience for each participant. Lessons do require work on weekends and holidays. Surf Instructors are scheduled on a first come first serve basis.
