This is not a standard surf coach job.
Tiny Whale Surf Lodge is a premium surf lodge and surf school based in Lagos, Algarve. For over 10 years, we’ve delivered surf holidays with a strong focus on structured coaching, education, and outstanding guest experience.

We operate our Surf Lodge for 5-weeks in spring and autumn and are currently looking for an experienced Surf Coach to join us for our Spring retreats.

This role is for you if:

• You love surf coaching, not just surf instructing
• You enjoy teaching theory, analysing technique, and guiding progression
• You want to work in a professional, structured coaching environment
• You’re curious, motivated, and keen to improve your coaching skills

What you’ll be doing:

• Coaching small groups (max. 4 guests) during structured surf weeks
• Delivering in-water coaching and land-based theory sessions
• Running video analysis, surf skate sessions, and practical exercises
• Supporting guests throughout their surf journey
• Participating in lodge life, social moments, and team activities
• Working closely with a small, motivated team

• Reliable, punctual, and consistent, even during intense periods
• Positive, solution-oriented, and respectful toward guests and colleagues

What we’re looking for:

• preferably Level 2 Surf Coaching Certificate (ISA, ASI, or national equivalent), Level 1 with a lot of expericence
• Valid Surf Safety / Lifeguard qualification
• Minimum 2 years proven surf coaching experience
• Experience with video analysis and alternative training tools
• Strong spoken and written English
• Full European driving license
• Legal right to work in Portugal
• Background in sport science or additional coaching qualifications is a plus
